NOTESNO. 39
“We’ll Fix It Next Time”
Deferring important work to a later phase is usually a way of avoiding a decision, and it only gets more expensive.
"We'll fix it next time" is where problems start to appear.
Every business owner has heard it:
"We'll handle that in Phase 2."
"We'll optimize that later."
"That's for the next rollout."
And here's the truth:
If it's important, it should be done now.
If it's not important, it shouldn't be done at all.
"We'll fix it next time" is usually code for:
- We don't want to decide now.
- We're not aligned.
- We're hoping the problem goes away.
- We'll deal with it when it's more painful.
And the longer you wait,
the more expensive it becomes.
Great businesses don't delay important work.
They face it early.
Decide it clearly.
Fix it properly.
Don't wait for your decisions to reach "Phase 2."
It never shows up.
